Last year, the blogging platform WordPress doubled in size, in terms of the number of users, reaching 18 million blogs in the month of March. One reason why the company decided to dig in a little deeper and provide a little more satisfaction to the users. Google officially shut down FTP support for Blogger on May 1st. Last year, the FTP issue has been quite tough to Blogger users most especially those who are not using a custom domain and rely on FTP alone to publish their blogs.

This termination decision made by Google for Blogger's FTP support was actually announced three months ago to keep Blogger users aware and to give them time to migrate to either a custom domain or another blog platform.

To all webmasters who are confused as to what the implications are now that FTP is no longer supported by Blogger, worry not because if you followed what Google advised everyone what to do about three months ago, your website is already on the safe side.

Blogs that are successfully migrated are rest assured that visitors will be redirected to the blog's new home with the PageRank preserved. The migration process was never a headache by the way, because of the full blog backup/export today feature they provided to ensure users will have the full copy of their blogs.

Google, on the other hand understands that most users will be frustrated about this decision, however, they are keen to provide many more great services in the future as they have a lot of ventures planned for 2010.
