The South Korean law enforcement team raided the offices of Google and Daum Communications after suspecting them of collecting confidential data without consent from its users. Police broke into the offices of the company claiming that AdMob, Google’s mobile application is collecting data illegally.
Police authorities have been positive with their conclusion that Daum and a subsidiary of Google Korea have collected information to determine the location of supercell users as a part of a marketing strategy.
The South Korean authorities are also looking up at the issue concerning Google’s collection of emails from unsecured wireless networks in 2009 and 2010 while capturing a satellite view of the area using their mapping technology. This is the same case that happened in Europe and to some other countries which suspended Google services. However, Google has been firm with their statement that all the data that was collected has been gathered by mistake.
This location-tracking topic has been a major issue nowadays. Just recently, Apple faced the same accusations because of the illegal data collection of the iPhone. Advertising companies have come up with advanced technologies especially this form of personalized advertising. With personalized advertising, companies are able to find out their customers’ personal data like where they are, what they like doing, what are their needs and many more. These information are no doubt, very important for companies to power up their businesses.
