The Fusion of Yahoo and Bing

8/18/10 11:02 PM

About a year and a few days ago when Yahoo and Microsoft announced a fusion in terms of search engines having the purpose of pulling down Google.

From an update on the blog of Yahoo!, it was broadcasted that starting this week in the United States and Canada, Yahoo! search engine will begin its transition and will begin showing off search results from Bing.

This contract will let Yahoo! revive its search engine by incorporating with it the more popular by Bing. This will also allow the search engine Redmond Giant to fuse with Yahoo! and raise its market share to 30% though about 65% still far controlled by Google. Nevertheless, this can only be made possible not until Bing has been implemented worldwide, which could probably last until 2012.

Only the search results will come from the index of Bing, while the interface, presentation and configuration, will absolutely stay unchanged and with the addition of the phrase "Powered by Bing" at the end of each search result. Apart from that, users can still enjoy Yahoo! tools like  search assistant, site filters, and many others.

In this clash of the search engines, we will see in time if this big fusion will hit a big impact to Google, an enormous contender we all know will never raise its while flag. In fact, Google continues to improve and revamp its search engine and just a few weeks ago Google Images interface was redecorated into something that Bing has been using for quite some time now.

In May 2009, the cyberspace was thrilled when Google had launched Google Wave as a tool to revolutionize the way people communicate.

The elation, though, lasted only for 14 months as Google announced that it will discontinue the service. One of the main reasons as assessed by analysts on why the service ended too soon is because it is too complicated. The fundamental design of the service is to allow association among different users via instant messages, documents, drawings, task lists, calendar and many more. But the service is not easy to appreciate and has proved to be confusing to several users who are comfortable to the plainness of other social networks.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that one of their policies is to try things out and they rejoice with their failures. However, some economic analysts do not believe in a similar way.

A few weeks ago when Google announced to the public its second-quarter revenue this year, advised that the company was too expanded and as a result it is losing ground in the search market.

And there are more potential justifications for the termination of Google Wave. The company is launching its computer operating system "Google Chrome OS" based on the same principle: "Our computer activities are conducted mainly within the browser and no longer on the desktop."

Simultaneously on the Internet, there are many buzz that the company might be working on a social network like Facebook called "Google Me."

This plan, according to speculations, could slot in elements of Wave and Google Buzz, the social platform mail service Gmail.

Almost every search portal has an option, aside from text contents to search for photos and images. This search option may attract a significant amount of traffic to our websites if we know how to make the images on our websites SEO-friendly. Statistics show that image searches from search engines take up the 20% of the total searches all over the web.

The search engine spiders also popularly known as crawlers are the ones responsible for indexing our websites, however, crawlers have now way to determine the importance or relevance of an image with just the photo alone. That's how the "ALT" attributes on the HTML code of your website comes into importance. This tag serves to explain and describes to the spiders the significance of the photos to the website, therefore giving greater emphasis to our content.

Here are a few tips from toprankblog on how to effectively optimize images:

1. Choose the appropriate images.
2. Incorporate the keyword in the file name of the photo.
3. Make sure the description placed as the "ALT" text is unique and descriptive.
4. Use the right anchor text.
5. Match the images with the content.
6. Do not stuff too many keywords on the "ALT" attribute as it might put you into trouble with search engines.

Though the effect of image optimization is not extremely important as compared to other strategies but as we keep on saying, every single technique helps in getting a good amount of visitors whether through image searches, standard searches and the social media.
